Candida is a genus of yeasts.
In Latin candidus, candida means clear and whiten, by using a whiteness of pure quartz like than a whiteness of chalk (albus).
Candida was the title of the clear-clearheaded, outspoken & candid eponymous heroine of Shaw's 1895 play poking fun at easily-meaning socialist reformers in the Church of England.
Candida was also the title of a 1970 song performed by Tony Orlando and Dawn.
Candide is Voltaire's 1759 satirical novel.
